RALEIGH, N.C. -- With a tremendous mix of talented returnees and a highly touted freshmen class, the expectations for the Wolfpack women’s soccer program this season are high. NC State head coach Laura Kerrigan welcomes back 16 letterwinners and nine starters from 2007. Additionally, 12 newcomers have been brought in, 11 freshmen and one transfer.
The coaching staff is looking forward to the challenge of blending a squad of seasoned veterans with a core of young, talented, soccer players.
“The great thing about this year’s team is that we have some tremendous leadership coming from our senior and junior classes,” noted Kerrigan. Seniors Lindsay Vera and Tami Krzeszewski have been starters and impact players for three years, and they know what it will take to win. We also have a handful of juniors with that similar type of playing experience and direction.”
The group of two seniors, six juniors, nine sophomores and 11 freshmen, will embark on the 2008 season with the passion and intensity that have long defined the Wolfpack program.
The team reported for the 2008 season last week and has been training extremely hard. The first game of the new campaign will be an historic one, as the Wolfpack will have the honor of playing the inaugural match at the new on-campus NC State Soccer Stadium. The red and white will host Wofford on Friday, August 22 under the lights at 7 p.m.
