8/7/2008 12:00:00 AM | Softball
Nearly 200 wins. Two NCAA Tournament appearances. Atlantic Coast Conference regular season and tournament championships.
What more could you ask for in just five years of existence?
Head coach Lisa Navas started the Wolfpack softball program on her own in 2004 and hasn’t looked back since. In just a short period of time she has built the team into a consistent ACC title and postseason contender.
NC State softball has racked up 12 All-ACC performers, a coach of the year, player of the year and an ACC Tournament MVP. Abbie Sims was named a Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America in 2007, and nine players have been rewarded with NFCA All-Region distinction.
Four former players (Jen Chamberlin, Miranda Ervin, Shaina Ervin and Sims) have played professionally, while Chamberlin, Shaina Ervin, Heather Gelbard and Sims have all been involved been involved with coaching at the collegiate level.
With the opening of the brand-new Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium and an appearance in the ACC Tournament championship game in 2008, the sky appears to be the limit for a program that’s history continues to be written with each new season.
