NC State Gymnastics' History of Success

To begin talking about the history of NC State gymnastics, you only need to begin with one name - Mark Stevenson. Stevenson has been the only head coach in the program's history, spanning the last 28 years. He has been named the NCAA Southeast Regional Coach of the Year four times, including the 2008 season when he was also tabbed as EAGL Coach of the Year for the third-straight year while leading the conference in regional qualifying score.
Many individual athletes were standouts for the Wolfpack over the years, with perhaps the best gymnasts in school history was 2008 senior Leigha Hancock. Described by Stevenson as the best NC State gymnast ever, Hancock was the only athlete to earn NCAA Southeast Gymnast of the Year honors, and was a two-time event champion at NCAA Regionals, the only Wolfpack athlete to accomplish that feat.
Kelli Brown posted a school record 23 scores of 9.9 or higher in her career from 1999-2002, including one of four perfect 10's for the Wolfpack.
Christi Newton posted 16 scores of 9.9 or higher, including a school record eight on the vault alone. Her scorrs of 9.950 on the vault on 1995 and 1996 still rank as school records.
