GREENSBORO, N.C. NC State junior Lauren Doughtie has been named to the 12-member 2008 All-ACC Women’s Golf team on Tuesday, as selected by the league’s nine head coaches.
NC State’s all-time stroke average leader becomes just the fourth Wolfpacker to earn All-ACC plaudits. Doughtie also joins current NC State assistant coach Ashlee Dean (2005) as the only players to earn all-league honors since the program was reinstated for the 2000-01 season.
Doughtie has compiled a team-leading 74.6 stroke average during her third campaign donning the red and white. She currently ranks 73rd and 79th nationally by Golfweek and Golfstat respectively.
The Wolfpack earned the 13th seed in the NCAA Central Regional, which gets underway on Thursday at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin. NC State is making its seventh consecutive appearance in an NCAA Regional.
Duke, led by junior Amanda Blumenherst, the 2008 ACC individual conference medalist and Player of the Year, had four players named to the All-ACC team. Virginia and Wake Forest were each represented by two players from their respective teams.
Florida State, Maryland, North Carolina and NC State rounded out the 12-member team with one selection each.
Kim Lewellen, Virginia’s first-year coach, was chosen as the league’s Coach of the Year, her first such honor in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Lewellen guided her team to a second place finish at the ACC Championship narrowly losing to Duke by one stroke.
