ALBUQUERQUE - Today was the best by far to this point. I had an early tee time which actually still kind of felt like midmorning. The course is gorgeous. It is amazing to see. You look around the golf course and you see all this bright green fairway and rough, but you look just off to the side a little bit and it is desert. You can see an old volcano from most of the course and even where the lava run off stopped.
Back in North Carolina, we are shocked when we can see 5-10 miles away because of all the trees and everything else, but today the New Mexico head coach pointed out a mountain that can be seen off in the distance while on the course that is over 60 miles away. It looks plain as day.
The best part of today was after I finished my practice round, Coach and I went with the Louisville coach, individual and her other teammates traveling with them to a fun park where we played laser tag and raced go-carts. Although we got a little lost while trying to navigate our way there, it was well worth it. Laura (one of the Louisville girls) dominated laser tag. The first game she got off five times more shots than the rest of us!
There were many positives that came from this trip besides just the fun we had. First, we saw a grocery store on our way there so we can scratch that off our list. Second, I had two other people to be in pictures with so the individual shots slowed slightly.
I have come to the conclusion, at least to this point, this tournament is like week long summer camp with golf thrown in for good measure. You stay up and watch movies with other teams. Teams pull pranks on other teams, which is quite amusing to witness. And to top it all everyone has a great time while competing for the National Championship.
Tomorrow will probably slow the fun slightly but won’t bring it to a halt. I am really excited to start my first round. I lead the tee times tomorrow at 8 AM, and after I play and practice a little after we will go pick up Ashlee at the airport. I think we are going to take her to play some laser tag tomorrow afternoon.
Well, time to get some rest before the real reason I’m out here gets underway on Tuesday.
Whoop, Whoop, LD Out.
