Deadline Nearing to Contribute to Earle Edwards Arch

Edwards, who won more career games than any football coach in Wolfpack history, guided the Wolfpack for 17 years, compiling a 77-88-8 record from 1954-1970. He also led the Pack to five ACC championships and two post-season bowl games.
“You don't have to talk with former players from that era very long to understand what an impact Earle Edwards had on his teams and Wolfpack football in general,” said associate athletics director for external operations Dick Christy, whose grandfather and namesake was Edwards’ first All-America at NC State.
The commemorative bricks are $500 each and can be purchased through the Wolfpack Club. So far, 56 bricks have been sold, primarily to Edwards’ former players, raising a total of $29,000. The anticipated cost of the project, which will serve as an entrance to
Construction on the project is expected to be completed prior to the 2008 NC State football season, which begins on Aug. 28 at South Carolina. The arch will be unveiled at the first home game, slated for Sept. 6 against William & Mary.
Among those who have purchased bricks are former players Claude “Hoot” Gibson, Steve Warren and Bob Kennel, as well as Christy, to honor his late grandfather, who led Edwards and the Wolfpack to the first ACC Championship in school history in 1957.
