RALEIGH, N.C. NC State volleyball head coach Charita J. Stubbs announced the addition of Allyson Weissberg and Kelly Wood to the program on Wednesday, May 14. Both players will compete in the Junior Olympics this summer before standing as freshmen on the State roster during the 2008 season.
Weissberg and Wood join Isis Gardner, Caelen Hiller, Sommerlyn Ivory, Margaret Salata and Arlee Tamiatti, all of which have already signed on to begin their careers in the red and white next year.
Weissberg will enter Raleigh via Irvine, Calif. Standing at 6-0, she will serve as an outside hitter/opposite side. Weissberg, currently enrolled at Woodbridge High School, competes for the TCA Volleyball Club.
“Allyson is a powerful hitter who understands the game,” said Stubbs.
Wood, from nearby Yadkinville, N.C., attends Fortbush High School and competes with the Piedmont Volleyball Club. At 5-8 she will serve as a libero for the Pack.
“We are really excited to have someone like Kelly come in,” said Stubbs. “She is a great athlete and a hard worker. We’re very pleased to add some local North Carolina talent to our program.”
State will begin the 2008 season Aug.29-30 at the Virginia Commonwealth Tournament in Richmond, Va.
