RALEIGH, N.C. Briana Cunningham scored twice and assisted on the game-winning goal in leading NC State to a 3-2 overtime win over UNC Greensboro in a women’s soccer spring game Thursday night at Derr Soccer Stadium.
Cunningham made a beautiful feed from the left wing towards the goal that was hauled in by Gia Cipollini and she deposited the ball into the back of the net for the victory just 25 seconds into the extra session.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, Cunningham took over with a pair of tallies just five minutes into the second stanza. She outworked the UNCG defense to score at the 49:59 mark to tie things up 1-all.
Less than two minutes later, Cunningham collected a deftly placed pass from Lindsay Vera and beat the Spartan keeper one-on-one.
UNCG scored in the 76th minute that squared the match 2-2.
Thursday’s match was played in front of a good size crowd on campus at the new Derr Soccer Stadium Complex.
