RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State head women’s golf coach Page Marsh has announced that Meghan Chapman and Hunter Ross have each signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Wolfpack beginning in the fall of 2008.
Chapman, a native of Seminole, Fla., has competed on both the Seminole High School boy’s and girl’s golf teams over the last two four seasons.
She won the Sectional Girl’s Tournament in 2007 at East Lake Golf Course with a round of 75 to advance to the regional tournament, where she placed second with a 75 at the Innisbrook Golf Resort in October of 2007.
The reigning two-time Pinellas County Player of the Year also enjoyed success during junior competition in 2007. Chapman won the Innisbrook Easter Tournament in April and then a match play event at the Golf Club in Naples, Fla., in June.
In 2006, Chapman finished as the runner-up at the High School Sectional Girl’s Tournament with another round of 75 at Belleview Biltmore Golf Club. She followed that up with a second-place finish at the Region 5 Tournament at Manatee County Golf Course by firing an even-par 72.
Back in 2005 she finished third at the District 13 Tournament and eighth at the Region 5 Tournament. In addition, the four-time all-county team member won the District 13 Tournament in 2004, wound up second at the Region 5 Tournament and ultimately placed eighth at the High School State Tournament at The Saints’ Golf Course in Port St. Lucie.
Additionally, just last month in the first AJGA tournament on the 2008 schedule, Chapman placed in a tie for 14th at the Mizuno Junior at Innisbrook, which included a first-round four-under 68.
Ross, who hails from Manakin Sabot, Va., is an accomplished junior golfer that was named the 2006 Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) Junior Golfer of the Year. That same year she earned first team All-America plaudits on the Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT).
Ross won the prestigious Junior Amateur North-South at Pinehurst in 2006 and played in the United States Jr. Girls Championship in 2004, 2006, and 2007, making the match play round in 2007. She also competed in the 2006 Women’s US Amateur at Pumpkin Ridge and also qualified for match play.
An honor roll student since the 5th grade and a member of the Cum Laude Society (3.99 GPA) at The Collegiate School in Richmond, Ross has been named team Most Valuable Player twice (2004 and 2007) and has placed in the top-10 four times at the Prep League Tournament, including winning the 2007 event.
Her success dates back to 2004 when she won the VSGA championship at the age of 14 when she drained an eight-foot birdie at No. 18 to break a tie and post a one-shot victory.
She is a nominee for the exclusive Lexus of Richmond Pursuit of Perfection Leadership Award, which is given out by the Fox TV affiliate in Richmond. While maintaining nearly a perfect 4.0 GPA, Ross participates in outreach through her class community service club.
