Men's Golf Finishes Second at River Landing Intercollegiate

Wallace, N.C. The NC State men’s golf team finished second at the River Landing Intercollegiate in Wallace, N.C., shooting a four-under (860) for the three round tournament. The Pack was one of just two teams to finish the tournament at under par, and had three golfers finish in the top-five overall.
Duke won the team championship after the Blue Devils shot an 11-under (277) in Sunday’s final round to finish at 13-under (851). Webb Simpson of Wake Forest and Michael Schachner of Duke tied for the top individual score as each finished at seven-under (209). Schachner holed a birdie on the first playoff hole to win the individual title.
The Pack came into the final round tied for first with Duke, but NC State finished the third round at two-under (286) compared to Duke’s 11-under (277).
Kent Copeland had all three rounds under par for the weekend, as he finished in a tie for third at five-under for the tournament. Copeland had three birdies in the final round, and shot a one-under (71) on Sunday.
Darren Blair and Matt Hill each finished in tie for fifth at the tournament, as both Pack golfers finished at one-under par. On Sunday, Hill used a team-high four birdies to finish the round two-under (70), while Blair’s three birdies led to an even-par (72).
Brad Revell shot four birdies and an eagle on the par-five No. 6, and finished Sunday at one-over (73) and was three-over for the tournament. Andrew Byrd finished the three rounds at 11-over, and shot two-over (74) on Sunday.
NC State’s three golfers competing as individuals also had strong showings in the final round, with one round under par and the two others at just one-over. Adam Hogue had the Pack’s top round on Sunday, as he fired a three-under (69), and was 13-over for the tournament. Wesley Tucker finished in 20th place overall, after he shot one-over (73) on Sunday and two-over for the tournament. Chad Day was also at one-over (73) in the final round, and was nine-over for the three rounds.

The Pack will return to action next weekend, when NC State competes in the ACC Championships at the Old North State Club in Badin Lake, N.C.
