Adams Hits NCAA Automatic Qualifying Mark in Long Jump
3/8/2008 12:00:00 AM | Track
Dexter Adams used a personal-best last weekend in the long jump to win his third career ACC title and second indoor crown, but his encore this weekend was even better. Adams hit a NCAA automatic qualifying mark with the third best mark in school history.
The team was split between the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame and the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet.
Adams' jump of 26'00.25" was just the third mark of 26 feet or longer in school history and matched the longest distance in the ACC this season. On top of that performance, Adams also finished third in the 60m dash with a 6.75, making him the second fastest sprinter in school history for that event.
Joining Adams at the Virginia Tech meet, Omar Wells finished second with an indoor personal-best in the 400m run with a 48.62.
John Martinez competed at the Alex Wilson Invitational and finished fifth in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:15.26, the second-fastest time of his career.
Adams will head to the NCAA Championships in Arkansas this coming week.
