WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. NC State volleyball continued its spring schedule on Saturday, March 29, with three bouts at Wake Forest. Thus far in the spring State has shown bright flashes of improvement in several aspects of play, which carried over to the court today.
For a team that has struggled with mental toughness in the past, that hurdle seems to have been toppled. All told, the red and white offered a gritty performance, willing to fight and scrap when most necessary.
The Pack got the day started against the hosting Demon Deacons, dropping two close games 25-20 and 25-23. State struggled to get comfortable early on, but played toe-to-toe with its Tobacco Road neighbor throughout the second half of competition. The team, which had been focusing on improving its pass and serve, performed well in both areas.
The red and white followed with a 25-12, 25-17 victory over Winston-Salem State.
State ended the evening by splitting two frames with Wingate, 22-25, 31-29. The team showed solid competitiveness and determination, especially in the second game when play spilt into overtime. Aiwane Iboaya landed two highlight-reel swings to put the Wolfpack on top and end the affair on a high note. Lindsay Benac, who moved several sensational passes throughout the day, contributed to numerous key plays and Keri Demar gave one of the best outside-hitting performances of her young career.
