Senior Leigha Hancock and freshman Brittney Hardiman each grabbed three first-team All-EAGL honors and an individual honor for the No. 21 NC State Gymnastics team. Hancock won the Outstanding Senior Award and was named All-EAGL Team MVP, while Hardiman was named Rookie of the Year in addition to each of their first-team event honors.
Four other Wolfpack gymnasts earned first or second-team honors as announced today by the league at its annual awards banquet on the eve of the 2008 EAGL Championships. NC State is the defending league champion and will look to repeat at the 2008 event, hosted by West Virginia in Morgantown, W. Va.
Hancock, from Suffield, Conn., is winding up her sensational career in style, earning first-team honors in floor, vault and beam. She won her third straight first-team honor on beam and her second first-team honor on floor (2006). She was named second-team on floor in 2007. Hancock was first-team on vault in back-to-back seasons after earning second-team honors in 2006.
Hancock was named the EAGL Gymnast of the Week three times this season and led the league in the floor and was second on beam.
Hardiman, from Apopka, Fla., capped off her freshman campaign with a handful of well-deserved hardware. Hardiman was named to the 2008 All-EAGL first teams on vault, uneven bars and in the all-around. She finished the 2008 regular-season ranked third in the all-around and first on vault within the EAGL. Hardiman received the EAGL Rookie of the Week honor four times this season. In addition, she was named second-team in floor and beam and was the only gymnast on the Wolfpack squad to earn either first or second-team accolades in all five individual events, including the all-around.
Taylor Seaman, a sophomore from Greensburg, Pa., earned first-team All-EAGL honors on the bars and floor, ranking second in the conference on bars and third on the floor. It was the second and third first-team selections of her young career after earning the nod in the all-around in 2007. Seaman was named second-team on vault and in the all-around this season, and also earned the first EAGL Gymnast of the Week of her career during the season.
Senior Heather Zolton, from New Port Richey, Fla., ranked seventh in the conference in the all-around to earn first-team honors for the second-straight season in the all-around. She also earned second-team for bars, the third-straight season she was honored. Zolton was second-team on beam, as well, as she wraps up her final season for the red and white.
Another senior, Kelsey Lee, from Owings Mills, Md., ended her best season with the Wolfpack by earning the first All-EAGL selections of her career. Lee was first-team on the bars, ranking third in EAGL during the regular season, and first-team in the all-around. In addition, Lee added second-team honors on the vault and floor.
Freshman Brittany Vontz, from Lincoln, Neb., earned a second-team selection on bars after coming on strong late in the season to help the team down the stretch. She was named Specialist of the Week by the league after posting a career-high 9.875 on bars, tied for the team-high this season.
