The NC State women’s golf team makes its annual trip to the Greensboro area for the 2008 Bryan Park National. The 54-hole event at the Players Course begins on Friday from Browns Summit, N.C.
Always considered one of the top women’s golf tournaments in the country, 2008 is certainly no exception with 15 of the 18 teams ranked in the top-50 by Golfstat, including the 35th ranked NC State Wolfpack.
Last time out two weeks ago, the Pack, led by Lauren Doughtie’s runner up finish, placed fourth at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La.
Doughtie’s three-day stroke total of 212 smashed the school record by four strokes set by Briana Vega at the 2004 ACC Championship. In the process, it moved the junior up to 80th in the Golfstat Cup Standings.
Also ranked No. 80 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin performance index, Doughtie leads NC State with a 74.3 stroke average with a pair of top-10 finishes.
Sophomore Emily Street and senior Stephanie Derrey are just behind with a 75.6 and 75.8 stroke average respectively.
Sister’s Joanna and Julie Saleeby round out the Wolfpack’s starting five with each posting a 78.1 scoring average in five tournaments.
Joining host UNC Greensboro and Wake Forest in the field is: Arkansas, Auburn, College of Charleston, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Furman, Michigan State, North Carolina, NC State, UNC Wilmington, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, TCU and Virginia.
