No. 21 Gymnastics Heads to EAGL Championship

The No. 21 NC State gymnastics team heads to Morgantown, West Virginia this weekend, March 28-29, to compete in the EAGL Championship. The Pack won the title last season, as well as in 1999 and 2000. NC State currently holds a 5-2 record in the EAGL with wins over Maryland, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and George Washington. Other teams in the EAGL include West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Rutgers. The Pack is 18-7 overall.
After finishing the regular season last weekend by posting a season-high 196.050 at New Hampshire, the Pack is currently first in the conference on beam, floor, and in overall team scores. The team is also second on vault and bars. Freshman Brittney Hardiman is first in the conference on vault and third in the all-around, while senior Leigha Hancock is fifth on vault, second on beam, and first on floor in the EAGL. Senior Heather Zolton is also 8th on bars and 4th in the all-around. The Pack has at least three gymnasts in the top-15 in EAGL rankings in every event.
NC State is also ranked nationally in all four events. The Pack is 18th on floor, 25th on beam, 22nd on bars, and 22nd on vault. Individually, Hardiman is 38th on vault and 48th in the all-around, Hancock is 19th on beam and 15th on floor, and sophomore Taylor Seaman is 23rd on floor.
West Virginia also has top-25 rankings in three events. The Mountaineers are 22nd on floor, 20th on bars, and 21st on beam. WVU also has three gymnasts in the rankings, Chelsi Tabor, who is tied for 38th on vault with Hardiman, Mehgan Morris, who is 9th on bars and 38th in the all-around, and Amy Bieski, who is 28th on floor.
North Carolina is in the top-35 in three events, including a no. 27 ranking on beam. Christine Nguyen represents the Tarheels in the rankings, coming in at 9th on beam and 26th in the all-around. Maryland boasts individuals in the national rankings as well. The Terrapin’s Allison Dama is currently 25th on bars.
