No. 45 Women's Tennis Falls to No. 9 Duke

The No. 45 NC State women’s tennis team fell to No. 9 Duke on Wednesday afternoon at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C. With the loss the Pack fall to 8-5 on the season and 1-2 in conference play while Duke improves to 10-1 and a perfect 3-0 in the ACC.
Duke won the doubles point for the fifth consecutive match on the strength of victories at flights one and three. The third-ranked Blue Devil tandem of sophomore Amanda Granson and junior Melissa Mang defeated Daria Petrovic and Berkeley Brock, 8-4, at No. 1, while the freshman duo of Ellah Nze and Reka Zsilinszka posted an 8-6 win over Catherine Grotz and Kristen Bleakley at No. 3.
The Blue Devils were also victorious at the middle slot, marking the fourth time in five matches that Duke has swept the doubles point, as junior Jessi Robinson and senior Tory Zawacki defeated Julia Roach and Lenka Hojckova, 8-5.
Granson was the first Blue Devil to notch a win, rolling past Neils Barringer at the No. 5 spot, 6-0, 6-0. Zawacki then picked up a straight-set win, defeating Bleakley, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6 before 14th-ranked Nze got past Petrovic, 6-1, 6-4, at the top position to clinch the win for Duke.
Zsilinszka, ranked 17th in the nation, went on to make the score 5-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hojckova at No. 3.
Mang secured a 6-3, 6-2 win over Roach at the No. 4 spot to make it 6-0, before sophomore Tara Iyer picked up a 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Brock at No. 2 to account of the final score.
The Wolfpack return to action on Saturday as they travel to Boston College to take on the Eagles at 3:30 pm.
