Hancock Earns Third EAGL Gymnast of the Week Accolade

NC State senior gymnast Leigha Hancock won her third EAGL Gymnast of the Week accolade, and second straight, in leading the Wolfpack to a second place finish on Senior Night against No. 5 LSU, North Carolina and George Washington. Hancock defeated two LSU gymnasts who were ranked in the top-15 nationally on the floor and in the all-around en route to her weekly honors.
The senior from Suffield, Conn., won the all-around with a 39.200, the second-best showing in her career, in a quad meet on Friday, Mar. 14. She also won floor with a 9.875 mark. In addition, Hancock posted a 9.900, a season high, to finish second on beam.
She beat out LSU's Ashleigh Claire-Kearney (second nationally) and Susan Jackson (14th) in the all-around and also finished higher than Jackson and Claire-Kearney by winning floor. Jackson ranked third nationally and Claire-Kearney sixth in the event.
NC State (17-7, 4-2 in EAGL) will compete at New Hampshire this Saturday, March 22 at 7 p.m. to conclude the regular season. The EAGL Championships will be hosted by West Virginia March 28-29, as the Wolfpack will look to defend its 2007 EAGL title.
