Head women’s soccer coach Laura Kerrigan is pleased to announce that Jessica Herrmann has transferred to NC State and will be a key contributor over the next three seasons for the Wolfpack.
The Bayshore, N.Y., native is excited to rejoin twin-sister Samantha on the Pack’s roster after one season at Penn State. Both will be sophomores during the 2008 season.
“I chose NC State because I wanted to play with my sister again. It was hard leaving each other (last year) to go to different schools,” explained Herrmann. “We had never been apart from each other for such a long period of time.”
In fact last year was the first time the Herrmann sisters played on separate teams.
With the Nittany Lions, Jess played midfield in eight games off the bench. Before that she was a top-50 recruit by Soccer Buzz out of Islip High School. In addition, she was a two-time NSCAA All-Region selection and the 2006 New York State Class `A' Player of the Year.
Kerrigan is anticipating great things when the two are reunited on the pitch.
"Jess brings with her a wealth of experience, having played on the Region I Olympic Development team for many years, playing at an extremely high level of domestic and international competition."
According to Kerrigan, Jess will bring an exciting brand of soccer to the red and white.
"She is such a great distributor of the ball with great vision on the field. She sees the possibilities before other players do, and this enables her to create great scoring chances."
And what can we expect from Samantha and Jess back on the field together?
“We always know where the other is on the field, like a different type of connection, added Jessica. “It will be exciting to finally play together again.”
The Wolfpack begins its spring schedule this Saturday at UNC Wilmington at 2 pm.
