Gymnastics Second Behind No. 16 Auburn

The NC State gymnastics team turned in a season-best score of 195.375 to take second behind No. 16 Auburn (195.950) in a quad-meet on Sunday, Feb. 3 in Raleigh. George Washington (192.075) finished third and Texas Woman's University (191.675) was fourth in front of a crowd of 1,123 at Historic Reynolds Coliseum. Leigh Hancock matched her career-high with a 9.950 on the floor for first place, while Kelsey Lee tied for first on the bars with a career-best 9.850. NC State improved to 6-3 on the season and 2-1 in the EAGL Conference.
As a team, NC State got season-highs on the bars (48.800), beam (48.625) and floor (49.125) and its vault score of 48.825.
Freshman Brittney Hardiman continued her solid performances early in the season with her second-straight fourth-place finish in the all-around competition with a season-high 39.175, tops in the EAGL. She finished tied for second in the vault with a 9.875, 11th in the bars (9.750), sixth in the beam (9.750) and tied for third in the floor with a 9.800.
Hardiman capped off a 1-2-3 sweep in the floor, and Taylor Seaman posted a 9.875 to finish second. Hancock topped the entire meet with her 9.950 to win the floor.
Lee tied for first on bars with a career-high 9.850 while Seaman was tied for third with a 9.825. Heather Zolton tied for seventh on the bars with a 9.800.
After Hardiman's second-place showing on the vault, Hancock tied for fifth with a 9.825 and Lee and Zolton tied for ninth with a 9.750.
NC State finished 4-5-6 and eighth on the beam, as Zolton, Hancock, Hardiman and Lauren Deuser turned in strong efforts.
Zolton (39.000) and Lee (38.875) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the all-around competition.
The gymnastics team travels to No. 1 Georgia, the three-time defending NCAA Champions, this weekend.
