No. 16 Gymnastics Hits Road for Quad Meet

The No. 16 NC State gymnastics team heads to Philadelphia, Penn. this weekend to participate in a quad meet on Saturday, March 1. The Pack will take on Pennsylvania, Temple, and Towson starting at 1 p.m. NC State currently holds a 9-6 record this season, while the Quakers are 3-10, the Owls are 5-10, and the Tigers are 9-5.
The Pack earned a national ranking of 16 after posting its highest team score of the season against No. 4 Michigan. NC State is also nationally ranked in the top-20 for all four events. The Pack is 15th on vault, 16th on bars, 19th on beam, and 10th on floor. Multiple gymnasts are also individually ranked. Senior Leigha Hancock is 13th on beam, and sophomore Taylor Seaman is 18th on floor. Freshman Brittney Hardiman is 23rd on vault and 25th in the all-around. Her rankings and performance against the Wolverines earned Hardiman her third EAGL Rookie of the Week honor.
NC State holds a 5-0 record over meet host Pennsylvania, with the last win coming in 2001. Marissa Rosen leads the Quakers on vault after scoring a 9.750 at the Ivy Classic last weekend, and against Towson the week before, she took the top spots in the all-around, beam, and floor. Stephanie Ortiz and Jordan Brewer also aid Pennsylvania on floor, scoring 9.700’s each at the Ivy Classic.
The Pack last took on Temple in 2001, and its win over the Owls helped NC State to a 3-1 record in the series. The Owls competed last weekend at Towson, and finished third out of five teams, topping both Penn and Ursinius. Natasha Crawford placed fifth on beam at the meet, and Desiree Meredith score a 9.675 on vault to lead to the team.

Towson took first last weekend at its home meet over four other teams. Christina Ghani leads the Tigers after taking first on both vault and bars. Ghani scored a 9.875 on vault, and Towson took the top four vault scores of the meet. Jackie Schweitzer is a top performer on bars, scoring a 9.800 last weekend, and Decelia Willacy scored a 9.825 on floor for second place at the meet.
