Lindsay Campana (2-5) took the loss while collecting 10 k’s and allowing two earned runs. Meghan Maynard (1-0) picked up her first win on the year in only 2.0 innings of work.
Tenn. Tech took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Beth Boden pushed an RBI single through the left side, scoring Katie Speiser from third.
State nearly jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the second. Alyssa Ishibashi reached first on a fielder’s choice, and Lisa Nentwig followed with a double down the line in right. But Lauren Peters lined out to first with two down and runners on second and third.
Both offenses remained mostly silent until Speiser nailed a solo homer over the wall in left in the bottom of the fifth, pushing the Golden Eagles advantage to 2-0.
The red and white tied things up in the top of the sixth with some timely hitting and patience at the plate. Shanna Smith and Asheligh Davis dropped back-to-back base hits, and Claudia Cooper walked to load the bags. Tenn. Tech then lifted starting hurler Maddie Schmissrauter in place of Maynard.
Two at-bats later Allbritten mashed a double into the gap in right-center, bringing two runs across the plate and knotting the score at 2-all.
But the Golden Eagles immediately reclaimed the lead at 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning on Blaes Schmissrauter game winning RBI single up the middle.
State will return to the field at 4 p.m. to take on tournament host Charleston Southern.
