Women's Swimming Heads to ACC Championships

RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State women’s swimming team will head to Atlanta, Ga., for the 2008 ACC Championships, Feb. 20-23. Hosted by Georgia Tech, all action will take place at the Georgia Tech Aquatics Center and admission is free. Live video streaming of the entire event will be broadcast online via ACC Select.
Action begins on Wednesday, Feb. 20, with the 200-medley relay and the 800-free relay. On Thursday, Feb. 21, prelims and finals will be held in the 500-free, 200-IM and 50-free, while prelims and finals in the 400-IM, 100-fly, 200-free, 100-breast and 100-back will take place on Friday, Feb. 22. Action will wrap up on Saturday, Feb. 23, with prelims and finals in the 200-back, 100-free, 200-breast, 200-fly and 1650-free.
Wolfpack relays will also be on display in the finals for the 200-free (Thursday), 400-medley (Friday) and 400-free (Saturday).
Patrice Dason holds the eighth-best time in the league on the year in the 100-butter with a 55.54, while Erica Smith’s 56.64 in the 100-back is ninth. Anna Linikenauger is eighth in the 200-IM with a 2:03.82, while Jennifer Kopenitz (2:01.78) and Smith (2:02.44) are ninth and 10th respectively in the 200-back. Kopenitz (4:23.55) and Linkenauger (4:24.18) place sixth and seventh in the 400-IM.
Linkenauger’s time in the 200-IM qualifies as an NCAA “B” standard.
Several of State’s swimmers hold high spots in many of the school’s top times. Linkenauger owns three top-10 all-time school marks, including the 200-IM (t2nd, 2:03.82), 400-IM (3rd, 4:22.45) and 200-breast (10th, 2:20.64). Dason’s 55.54 in the 100-butter is the second-best mark in Wolfpack history, and Smith’s 56.52 in the 100-back is third. Kopenitz 2:01.78 is third in the 200-IM.
