ORLANDO, Fla. Lindsay Campana (1-2) gave up a base hit to the first batter she faced, but that was it. The sophomore hurler cruised the rest of the way, pitching NC State past Central Arkansas, 6-0, in its final game at the UCF Softball Tournament, on Sunday, Feb. 10 in Orlando, Fla.

The one-hitter, complete with nine strikeouts, served as Campana’s first victory from the circle in the red and white. She set the tone early, striking out the side in the top of the second. After giving up a single to Amanda Perrott to begin the game, she practically mowed through the Bears lineup the rest of the way.

NC State ends its season-opening weekend with a 3-2 record, while UCA falls to 0-5. Lyndsey Harris (0-3) took the loss for Central Arkansas.

Allison Presnell, the only player to get a hit in each of the Pack’s five games throughout the tournament, went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Shanna Smith went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, and Blair Harkey added two hits.

The Pack batted around and scored five runs, four before recording an out, with some timely hitting and shaky UCA defense in the bottom of the third. Lisa Nentwig started things off by lining a single into right and taking third on a sac-bunt by Ashleigh Davis. Second baseman Mady Lombard dropped the throw to first on Davis’ sac-bunt, allowing her to reach and then steal second base. Smith followed with a double into right to score Nentwig.

Lauren Peters then sent a fly ball to right, which Mandy Haney dropped, allowing Davis and Smith to score while Peters scuttled to third. Claudia Cooper knocked Peters in with an RBI single through the left side.

Harkey finished the scoring activity in the third with a double down the line in left that brought Krystal Hawkins in.

The red and white added another run to its cushion in the bottom of the fourth. Smith nailed a triple into the gap in right center and later scored on a Presnell single into center.

State resumes play next week at the FAU “Strike-Out” Cancer Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla., Friday, Feb. 15 through Sunday, Feb. 17. The Pack will take on Kent State, host Florida Atlantic, Long Island, Miami (Ohio) and at least one other game.
