NC State gymnastics head coach Mark Stevenson is pleased to announce the signing of two recruits for the 2009-10 school year. Rachel Fincham from Maryland and Kyra Platt from Florida will join the Wolfpack for the 2009-10 school year and compete for Stevenson's squad.
"Both of these student-athletes excel in the classroom and have phenomenal gymnastics skills," Stevenson said. "Rachel and Kyra are very talented gymnasts and they will fill specific holes for us and will add to the long line of academic success we have had over the years. They bring great energy and a skill level that will help right away."
Fincham competed for Docksiders Gymnastics, the same club team as current Wolfpack freshman Katie Plummer. Fincham is a multiple qualifier to Level 10 Junior Olympics Nationals, and she finished third on bars and 17th in the all-around at the 2008 meet.
"Rachel will impact our gymnastics team in the all around," Stevenson said. "She is a very tough, seasoned competitor who is extremely talented."
Platt is a former elite gymnast who competed at the 2005 Visa Championships and competed on the club level at Coast Elite Gymnastics. She finished 20th in the all-around at the 2005 Visa Championships and finished the 2008 JO season ranked seventh on vault and No. 31 overall.
"Kyra has an international look to her gymnastics and she has competed with the best in the country," Stevenson said. "She will bring a wealth of experience to our program."
