RALEIGH, N.C. While the NC State men’s golf team enjoyed great success during its fall season, finishing No. 19 nationally and sophomore Matt Hill ranked No. 1 as well, a few former Pack golfers now in the professional ranks have been playing quite well recently.
Justin Walters has a big week coming up, as he concludes the PGA Q School in La Quinta, Calif., Decemember 3-8. Walters’ result this week will determine which PGA Tour he will be playing on next season. Walters will either join Tim Clark, Carl Pettersson, and Marc Turnesa on the PGA Tour, or join former NC State teammate Garth Mulroy on the Nationwide Tour.
Walters advanced to the final stages of the Q School after finishing tied for 15th with a 288 (even-par) at Lantana, Texas, November 19-22 in the second round stages.
Mulroy himself has been impressive as of late, as he is coming off of two wins on South Africa's Sunshine Tour. He teamed with Bobby Lincoln to win the Gary Player Invitational by three strokes, and more recently won the Coca Cola Championship by a seven-stroke margin.
Mulroy was also named Golfer of the Week. Mulroy currently sits in second place after only playing in four tournaments in merit points.Former NC State golfer Mark Tullo led Chile to its best ever finish in the OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup on Sunday, finishing tied for tenth. Paired with fellow Chilean Felipe Aguilar, the two shot a 276 in the grueling four round tournament.
The tournament was held in China on November 27-30, and Tullo and Aguilar will split $96,667 for his 10th place finish.Former NC State golfer Tim Clark tied for fourth in the SportsBet Australian Open this past Sunday. Clark shot a 67 in the final round of competition that included six birdies in his first 11 holes, and finished eight under par for the entire tournament.
