Men's Soccer in Action at No. 18 Duke

RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer team will played its final regular season game of the season, Friday night at No. 18 Duke. This ACC contest will be the last game before next week’s ACC Tournament which will be played in Cary, N.C.
NC State enters the Duke contest with a 7-8-1 mark on the season, 2-5 in ACC play. The Wolfpack was won six of its last eight contests, with the only two losses in that span to teams currently ranked in the top-five nationally. NC State has also recorded two straight shutouts, three in the last four games, and has outscored the opposition 24-10 over the last eight games.
The NC State offense features a pair of player already with at least 20 points on the season, and both in the top-10 in the ACC in scoring. Junior Alan Sanchez (8g, 6a) has 22 points, followed closely by classmate Ronnie Bouemboue (9g, 3a) with 21 points.
In goal for the Pack, junior Christopher Widman has five shutouts on the season, and has a GAA of 1.52. He has collected three shutouts over the last four games.
The Blue Devils head into the contest on a five-match unbeaten streak. They are 10-5-2 overall, 3-2-2 in conference play and most recently dropped Northern Illinois, 3-1, last weekend.
Duke will honor six seniors prior to the game. Senior Mike Grella headlines the offense with 12 goals and seven assists for a league-leading 31 points. Duke’s defense has been outstanding of late, allowing just one goal in the past five games and notching nine shutouts on the season.
Friday night’s game marks the 73rd meeting of the in-state rivals. Duke holds a 48-19-5 lead in the series and has won the past three contests. The Wolfpack’s last win in Durham was a 2-1 victory in 1995.
