Volleyball Drops to Duke

RALEIGH, N.C. NC State volleyball lost in three games to Duke at historic Reynolds Coliseum on Friday, Nov. 14. The loss sends the Pack to 9-23 (3-14 ACC) on the year, while the Blue Devils climb to 21-8 (12-5 ACC).
Arlee Tamietti sprinkled in 10 kills for the Pack, but her hitting percentage suffered greatly due to 13 attack errors. Alex Smith pushed up 22 assists. Kelly Wood (13) and Lindsay Benac (12) combined for 25 of State’s 41 digs, but the Pack tallied a season-low two total blocks.
Rachael Moss landed 16 kills for Duke, and Kellie Catanach added 32 assists and seven total blocks. Claire Smalzer secured 11 digs, while Aana Wherry added 10 of her own.
The Pack’s best statistical effort came in the opening frame on a .184 hitting clip with 13 kills in a 25-16 defeat. The Blue Devils then cruised on a .375 effort with 12 kills and just three attack errors in the second frame, winning out 25-15. Both squads found the scored knotted five times in the second stanza, with State briefly leading at one point, but the Pack’s offense struggled on a .057 attack percentage.
The Blue Devils led throughout in the final game, grabbing a 25-17 decision while committing one attack error.
NC State will host Florida State and Miami next week.
