LAKELAND, Fla. NC State alum Molly Birmingham and current senior Lauren Doughtie finished tied for fifth and seventh respectively at the Duramed FUTURES Tour Qualifying School.
Birmingham fired a final-round 72 to card a 5-under 283 total. The Cornelius, N.C., native played for the Pack from 2002-06, was very consistent all week with rounds of 70, 71, 70 to go with her even-par round to wrap up the event.
Doughtie, No. 58 in the latest Golfweek rankings, finished with the fifth lowest score by an amateur with a 4-under 284 total. Her final round 69 capped off a week that saw her shoot 75, 69 and 71 over the first three days.
Also, alumnus Lorraine Ballerano finished tied for 45th with a 7-over 295 four-round total. She began strong with a 69 on day one and was able to hold on with a one-over 73 during the last round of competition.
The 94 players who made the 54-hole cut will receive exempt or non-exempt status for the 2009 Duramed FUTURES Tour season. The number of exempt players will be determined following the final stage of LPGA Qualifying School in early December.
Now in its 28th season, the Duramed FUTURES Tour has established itself as “the Road to the LPGA and Beyond,” and since 1999, it has been designated as the official developmental tour of the LPGA.
