RALEIGH, N.C. Junior Ronnie Bouemboue picked up a pair of honors for his performance at No. 25 Duke this past week. He was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week and was named to College Soccer News' team of the Week. Bouemboue scored both goals in the Wolfpack’s 2-1 win at No. 25 Duke on Friday night to close out the 2008 regular season.
Bouemboue netted two scores and the Pack’s defense limited the Blue Devils to just two shots on goal in capturing the seventh win in the last nine games for NC State. NC State jumped on the scoreboard first with the lone score in the first half of play. Junior Alan Sanchez had the ball on the right wing, and played a pass back to Kris Byrd. Byrd quickly sent the ball into the box, where Bouemboue ran onto it. Bouemboue cut the ball back and buried a far post shot at the 34:55 mark. Bouemboue and the Pack added a second score less than one minute into the second half. Classmate Federico Nachmann stole the ball at midfield and played a pass up to Bouemboue. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native then laid the ball off to Sanchez, who one-timed it back to Bouemboue and created a breakaway score at the 45:45 mark. Bouemboue currently leads the team with 13 goals on the season, which is good for fourth in the ACC. The forward scored four goals in the last three games of the regular season.NC State enters the 2008 ACC Men’s Soccer Championship this week on a roll, as the Pack has won seven of its last nine games, including three of its last four ACC contests. The four-day tournament opens competition at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., on Tuesday, November 11, with eighth-seeded NC State (8-8-1, 3-5-0 ACC) facing ninth-seeded Virginia Tech (5-12-1, 0-8-0 ACC) in the day’s only match.
