RALEIGH, N.C. NC State will return to the court at historic Reynolds Coliseum this weekend, hosting both Virginia Tech and Virginia. The Pack will take on the Hokies tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m., before facing off with the Cavaliers on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. Admission to both matches is free, and live stats will be offered on GoPack.com
With an 8-11 (2-2 ACC) record, State is positioned in eighth-place in the conference standings. Virginia Tech (14-2 / 5-0 ACC) is clearly the hottest team in the ACC thus far, standing at the top of the league and undefeated in conference play. Virginia (10-7 / 2-3 ACC) is ninth.
The Pack, which is 4-2 (2-0 ACC) in home contests on the year, will look to continue its spirited play in front of a partisan NC State crowd. Aiwane Iboaya, who was named ACC Player of the Week just two weeks ago, leads the squad in hitting percentage (.315) and total blocks (63), while Arlee Tamietti is tops in kills (198). Alex Smith’s 555 set assists is a team-best, as is Margaret Salata’s 29 service aces and Kelly Wood’s 259 digs.
Even though both of the Hokies losses have come on the road this season, Virginia Tech has strung together 11-straight decisions. They will play at North Carolina on Thursday night before making the short jaunt to Raleigh. The Hokies have dropped just one set total in ACC play, beating Clemson 3-1 in Blacksburg on Sept. 26.
UVa’s Lauren Dickson was tabbed as the conference player of the week this past Monday after posting a pair of double-doubles in road wins at Boston College and Maryland over the weekend. Prior to those matches the Cavaliers had been swept at Virginia Tech before falling to Georgia Tech (3-1) and dropping a five-set donnybrook to Clemson (3-2). Like the Hokies, Virginia will take on North Carolina before coming to Raleigh, squaring off with the Tar Heels on Friday night.
Following this weekend’s action, NC State will host rival North Carolina next Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. Play will be broadcast live online via ACC Select.
