CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. NC State lost to Boston College, 3-0, in Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Thursday, Oct. 30. The loss moves the Pack to 9-18 (3-9 ACC), while the Eagles (7-17 / 1-11 ACC) grab its first conference victory of the year.
Arlee Tamietti (11) and Isis Gardner (10) led the Wolfpack offense, while Alex Smith (17) and Allison Davis (10) combined for 27 of the team’s 33 assists. Kelly Wood recorded 16 digs, and Aiwane Iboaya had four total blocks.
Jordan Meredith landed 12 kills for BC, while Brittany Pierpont had 34 assists. Kristen Baader’s 15 digs was a team best, as was Tori Thompson’s five blocks.
BC hit a match-best .205 in handing the Pack a four-point loss in the opening set, 25-21. State tied the score early on but never led as the Eagles landed 12 kills and just four attack errors.
The Pack’s best statistical effort came in the second stanza as the red and white hit .182 with 11 kills and five attack errors despite falling 26-24. In a frame that saw seven tied scores and two lead changes, State scored three-straight to knot the score at 24-all with the Eagles serving for game point. Despite the comeback however, BC rattled off two in a row after NC State tied things up to seal the deal.
The third and final frame was nearly a mirror image of the second with the Eagles coming out on top, 27-25. Both squads were locked in a tie on seven occasions, and the Pack came back to tie things up at 25-25 with BC once again serving to end play. Again the joy was short lived as back-to-back Eagle scores finished the evening.
NC State will take on Maryland tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. in College Park, Md.
