RALEIGH, N.C. - The Wolfpack women’s soccer team hosts league foe Miami on Thursday evening at 7 p.m., from NC State Soccer Stadium.
The PINK OUT event is a fund raiser for the Pretty and Pink Foundation - a group that raises money for women who cannot afford the medical care for breast cancer. A portion of the tickets sales will go to the foundation, while Pretty and Pink will be giving out promotional items to fans in attendance. NC State is asking fans to wear pink colored clothing items to show support for breast cancer.
NC State has lost consecutive nail-biters, 2-1, over the past week as the offense has shown the ability to find the back of the net. First it was Tanya Cain last Thursday in the one-goal setback at Wake Forest. Then this past Sunday Briana Cunningham scored in the later stages of the first half to give the Pack a 1-0 lead over Maryland.
The Wolfpack has an 8-10 overall record and a 0-8 mark in conference play. Lindsay Vera leads the Wolfpack in scoring with eight goals and six assists for 22 points, which is tied for seventh in the ACC.
Meredith Parrilla, Gia Cipollini and Vera are tied for the team lead and rank seventh in the ACC with six assists each.
Rachel Barnette has come up with 56 stops in 11 matches. She leads the league with 5.09 saves per game.
Freshmen Paige Dugal and Tanya Cain have each notched three goals this season.
Miami is unbeaten in its last three outings (2-0-1), and holds the eighth and final playoff spot with eight points in league play (2-4-2). The Hurricanes are 9-6-3 overall and are coming off a 1-0 upset of No. 19 Wake Forest this past Sunday.
Brittany Steinbruch leads Miami in scoring eight goals and 16 points, while Lauren Singer has handed out five assists on the season.
The Canes strength lies in their defense. Keeper Vikki Alonzo has 10 shutouts this season to lead the ACC, while her 0.80 goals-against-average is second in the league.
The Wolfpack wraps up its regular season at home Sunday against No. 6 Florida State at 1p.m. NC State will honor its two seniors before the match.
