RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer team picked up its fourth consecutive non-conference win, as the Wolfpack defeated Longwood, 4-0, Wednesday night at the NC State Soccer Stadium. The Pack (6-8-1) scored a pair of goals in each half, and limited the Lancers (6-6-3) offense to just three shots on goal.
The Pack would get on the scoreboard first in the 11th minute. Less than a minute after hitting the post on the game’s first shot, Kris Byrd converted a rebound off a miss by Ronnie Bouemboue for his second goal of the season at the 10:45 mark.
Bouemboue would then score his first of the match in the 23rd minute. Chrystel Bakong took advantage of a loose ball in the Pack’s defensive end, and played a pass to Federico Nachmann on the right side of the field. Nachmann then played a through ball past the Lancers defense, and Bouemboue got his foot to hit at the 22:36 mark for the score.
NC State led at the half 2-0.
Bouemboue would then add his team-leading ninth goal of the season just over three minutes into the second half. Alan Sanchez took control of the ball at midfield and drifted to the right side where he played a long ball into the Lancer’s PK box. Bouemboue one-timed the cross into the back of the net at 48:13.
NC State would add one final score in the 83rd minute. Chris Zuerner was fouled in the Longwood penalty box, and converted the penalty kick for his third score of the year at the 82:02 mark.
NC State held a slight 12-7 shot advantage, and the Pack’s Christopher Widman recorded his fourth shutout of the season with three saves.
The Pack’s final home contest will be this Saturday, when NC State plays host to Virginia Tech at 7:00 p.m. at the NC State Soccer Stadium.
