Clemson Defeats Volleyball In Three

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State's volleyball team stayed close to the Clemson Tigers in the home match Saturday night, but lost 3-0 in historic Reynolds Coliseum. With the loss, the Pack is now 9-17 (3-8 ACC), and Clemson improves to 16-6 (8-3 ACC).
Isis Gardner led the Pack in Kills with 12, and Alex Smith had a team high 31 assists. NC State had three serving aces and Kelly Wood led the team in digs with 18.
Clemson's Lia Proctor led the Tigers with 16 kills, and Kelsey Murphy had 36 assists. Didem Ege had 14 digs for the Tigers and Murphy also led the team in blocks with five.
The Pack began the first set in full force, staying even with the Tigers through the first 14 scores. After falling behind, NC State came back from a time out and quickly scored four points to tie the set. Clemson rallied back but not without a fight from the Pack, who retied the game at 22-22. The Tigers used 15 kills to keep the Pack at bay and win the set, 25-23 . NC State had a .162 hitting percentage and tied the Tigers' 15 kills.
Clemson and the Pack kept the score close throughout the second set, but the Tigers .339 hitting percentage proved to be too much and pulled away to earn the 25-19 win. NC State had 29 kills compared to Clemson's 27, and had a .133 hitting percentage in the second frame.
NC State could not keep up with Clemson at the start of the third set, but rallied back to tie the frame at 18-18. The two teams traded scores with neither wanting to give up the set, until the Tigers pulled away and won the third and final set of the night 26-24. The Pack held Clemson to its lowest hitting percentage of the night, .167, and NC State's percentage was .036.
