Men's Soccer Hosts No. 6 Maryland Saturday Night

RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer team will return to home action this weekend, as the Wolfpack (5-7-1, 1-4 ACC) will host No. 6 Maryland (12-3, 3-2 ACC) this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at the NC State Soccer Stadium.
The Wolfpack is on a hot streak as of late, winning four of its five games, with the only loss in that span to No. 1 Wake Forest. Over the last five games, NC State has outscored its opponents 17-8, and seven different goal scorers have scored the Pack’s last seven goals.
Juniors Ronnie Bouemboue and Alan Sanchez continue to lead the Wolfpack attack. Bouemboue has a team-high seven goals, while Sanchez leads the squad with 17 points including a team-best five assists.
A pair of newcomers this season are also making an impact on offense. Freshman Watt Williams (3g, 3a) and junior Federico Nachmann (3g, 2a) are third and fourth on the team in scoring this season.
Junior Christopher Widman has started the last 10 games in goal. The shutout against Clemson last weekend was his third of the season and lowered his GAA to 1.78.
Maryland enters this weekend’s contest at 12-3 and 3-2 in ACC play, including a string of five straight victories in which they have outscored their opponents 13-2. The Terps are currently ranked No. 6 nationally in both the NSCAA and College Soccer News weekly polls, and has been in the top-10 in both every week this season.
Maryland is coming off of a 1-0 win at West Virginia on Tuesday night. Jeremy Hall and Casey Townsend have each scored a team-high 10 goals on the season, and Zac MacMath earned his fifth shutout in goal and lowered his GAA to 0.54.
Maryland leads the all-times series with NC State, 42-19-5, including a slight 15-11-3 edge in games played in Raleigh. This season marks the first time in three seasons Maryland has played at NC State. The Wolfpack is 1-0-1 in the last two games in Raleigh, earning a 1-1 tie against No. 2 Maryland in 2004, and defeating No. 3 Maryland in 2005, 1-0. Last season, the Terps used four second-half goals and downed the Wolfpack in College Park, 5-0.
