TALLAHASSEE, Fla. NC State took one set, but fell at Florida State, 3-1, on Saturday, Oct. 18. The loss sends the Pack to 9-15 (3-6 ACC), while the Seminoles improve to 12-7 (4-5 ACC).
Arlee Tamietti’s 10 kills and Alex Smith’s 30 assists led the Pack’s offense, while Margaret Salata secured five blocks. Tamietti also led the team in digs with 13, and was one of two players, along with Allyson Weissberg, to record a service ace.
Four FSU netters, Lauren Richardson (17), Jordan Price (16), Brianna Barry (11) and Stephanie Neville (10) had double-digit kill totals, while Nikki Baker etched 46 assists. Ashlee Moon collected 25 digs, while Barry and Price had three total blocks each.
NC State collected three of the first four scores of the opening frame, but the Seminoles quickly caught up and the two teams played neck and neck the rest of the way. Florida State eventually built a six-point cushion at 21-15, but a four-point NC State rally sliced the lead to 21-19. When FSU pushed its lead back to three at 23-20 the Pack was forced to call a timeout, but consecutive attack errors from Tamietti and Salata handed the opening tally to the Seminoles, 25-20.
State hit a match-low -.069 while Florida State cruised on .520 hitting clip in a 25-9 second stanza decision. FSU belted out 15 kills and just two attack errors.
The Pack followed with its best offensive effort, a .231 effort, in a 23-25 third set victory. Despite five tied scores, the Pack led the vast majority of play, twice leading by as many as five points.
State’s offensive woes reared its ugly head again in the fourth set, helping FSU pick up the frame 25-14. The Pack put up six kills, but hit -.021 compared to the Seminoles 16 kills and .273 clip.
Next weekend NC State will host both Georgia Tech and Clemson in ACC play at historic Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack will take on the Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, later facing the Tigers on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m.
