Volleyball Heads to Sunshine State for ACC Bouts

RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State volleyball team will head south to Florida for two ACC contests over the weekend. The Pack will battle Miami in Coral Gables on Friday, Oct. 17, before facing Florida State in Tallahassee on Saturday, Oct. 18. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
NC State enters the weekend at 9-13 (3-4 ACC) after falling to rival North Carolina in four sets this past Tuesday in Raleigh. Arlee Tamietti leads the Pack in both kills (228) and service aces (18), while Alex Smith’s 659 assists is a team-best. Kelly Wood’s 325 digs is tops on a solid defense that features six State netters with triple-digit dig totals, while Aiwane Iboaya has the most total blocks on the squad with 78.
The Hurricanes (17-2 / 5-2 ACC) had won four straight and stand tied for second place in the league with Clemson. Both of Miami’s losses on the season came in road shutouts at Wake Forest and Clemson. The Canes feature four players with over 100 kills each, including Lane Carico (206) and Genny Mayhew (204), while Katie Gallagher has 666 assists and a squad-best 23 service aces. Angelica Ellis has recorded 53 total blocks, while Cassie Loessberg has 301 digs.
The Seminoles (11-6 / 3-4 ACC), like NC State, are amongst the logjam in the middle of the ACC standings. FSU has won two straight, both ACC contests, after previously dropping three in a row. Jordana Price has amassed 152 kills and 70 blocks, while Nikki Baker has 633 assists. Jenna Romaneli’s 17 service aces is a team best, as is Ashlee Moon’s 229 digs.
Next weekend NC State will host both Georgia Tech and Clemson in ACC play at historic Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack will take on the Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, later facing the Tigers on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m.
