RALEIGH, N.C. NC State will host rival North Carolina in an ACC volleyball clash tomorrow night, Tuesday, Oct. 14, at historic Reynolds Coliseum. Play begins at 7 p.m. Aside from taking on the Tar Heels, the Pack will also be joining in the fight against breast cancer by declaring the night as a “Dig Pink” event.
All fans of Wolfpack volleyball are encouraged to wear pink and help stress the importance of the fight against breast cancer. Donations will be collected at the door during the event. For a donation of just $5 you can receive a pink NC State shirt with proceeds going directly to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Another $5 donation will enter your name in a raffle for tickets to the NC State vs. North Carolina men’s basketball game on Jan. 31 at the RBC Center. The winner of the tickets will be announced later that night during the third set of play.
Proceeds will benefit the Side-Out Foundation. Donations can also be made online via this link.
State will enter the match at 9-12 (3-3 ACC) having won four of its last seven outings. Arlee Tamietti leads the squad in kills (217) and service aces (16), while Alex Smith’s 633 assists is tops on the roster. Five Wolfpack netters have triple-digit dig totals, with Kelly Wood’s 299 leading the way. Aiwane Iboaya has the most blocks on the team with 75.
North Carolina owns a 9-8 (3-3 ACC) record after splitting home contests last weekend with Virginia Tech (W, 3-2) and Virginia (L, 3-2). Lauren Prussing’s 147 kills are the most among all Tar Heels, while Stephanie Jansma (452) and Erica Behm (132) have combined for 584 of the team’s 685 assists. Suzanne Hayde has eight service aces and Brianna Eskola posts 278 digs. Heather Brooks’ 65 total blocks lead the UNC roster.
Following Tuesday’s action, NC State will hit the road for two ACC bouts over the weekend. The Pack will play at Miami on Friday, Oct. 17, before heading to Florida State on Saturday, Oct. 18. Both matches will start at 7 p.m.
