RALEIGH, N.C. Behind four first half goals, the NC State men’s soccer team defeated Florida Atlantic, 5-3, Wednesday afternoon at the NC State Soccer Stadium. Junior Ronnie Bouemboue finished with one goal and two assists, while classmate Federico Nachmann had one goal and one assist on the day as they led five different Wolfpack scorers.
The Pack started the games scoring in the eighth. Nachmann and Bouemboue played a quick one-two in the Owls penalty box, and Nachmann took one touch and slotted a shot into the net at the 7:27 mark.
NC State’s second goal came after a similar build-up between Nachmann and Bouemboue. Bouemboue had the ball at his feet on the left side of the field, and fed Nachmann in the middle of the field, who slipped a pass past the defense to freshman Watt Williams. Williams collected the pass and went far post for the score at the 29:28 mark.
The Pack would score two more times before the half, both coming off long throw-ins from freshman Zane Tharakan. On the first one, Tharakan found senior Daniel Shields at the back post at the 42:16 mark. Less than a minute later, Tharakan threw the ball into the box, and it was flicked on by Amar Brkic to sophomore Chris Zuerner for the goal at the 43:08 mark.
NC State finished the half up 4-0.
Just 33 seconds into the second half, the Pack would take a 5-0 lead and then proceed to empty the bench. Freshman Farouk Bseiso won the ball in midfield and fed a long pass to Bouemboue who got behind the defense for the goal.
FAU would not go home quietly, as the Owls would score three goals before the game was over. Stan Castaldo netted the first FAU score at the 53:28 mark. The Owls would then score two more goals just 22 seconds apart in the 79th minute for the game’s final result.
NC State will continue its six-game homestand this Saturday, as the Pack will host Gardner-Webb at 7:00 p.m.
