Gymnastics Gets Road Upset of No. 18 Ohio State

The NC State gymnastics team upset No. 18 Ohio State, 193.625-193.400, in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday to improve to 2-1 on the season. Leigha Hancock recorded her 15th score of 9.9 or above in her career, third all-time in Wolfpack history, with a 9.900 in the floor exercise. Hancock won two events and Kirsten Such and Kelsey Lee also won events for the Pack.
The Red and White had a strong all-around meet with two event wins. NC State won the beam by .525 points and scored a 49.000 on the floor. The Pack lost in the bars by only .100 points, and the vault by .400.
Lee tied for first in the vault with a career-best tying 9.775 to get the Wolfpack off to a quick start. Heather Zolton was sixth with a 9.725.
Taylor Seaman turned in a second place performance in the bars with a 9.775 while Lee finished tied for third with a 9.725.
Such tied for first with Hancock in the beam with a 9.750 while Seaman was fifth with a 9.650.
Hancock scored her 9.900 in the floor to lead a 1-2-3 sweep in the event. Seaman turned in a 9.875 for second and Brittney Hardiman was third with a 9.825.
Zolton finished second in the all-around competition with a sixth place showing on the vault and bars and a 10th place finish on both the floor and beam. Her 38.200 in the all-around was just .275 points out of first.
With the win, NC State improved to 3-5 all-time against the Buckeyes including a win last season.
The gymnastics team will travel to Towson on Feb. 1 for the Governor's Cup before opening its home slate on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 1 pm. Auburn, George Washington and Texas Women's.
