After handing head coach Mark Stevenson his 400th career win, the NC State gymnastics team will return to action this weekend to take on No. 18 Ohio State. The meet will take place in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. The last time the two teams met was last season when NC State hosted the Buckeyes and won by a close 1.375 points. The Pack is currently 1-1 after falling to No. 12 Arizona, and defeating Alaska two weeks ago. The Buckeyes are 2-0 with wins over both Maryland and then No. 19 Illinois.
NC State holds team national rankings in both the uneven bars (No. 16) and vault (No. 11). Senior Leigha Hancock, after being named EAGL Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 14, holds a No. 4 national ranking on the balance beam, and in a multi-person tie for 20th on vault.
In the meet against Arizona and Alaska, the Pack began the season in full force. Hancock took the top score on beam and vault, and freshman Megan Rowell was a close third in the vault. Senior Kelsey Lee took fourth on bars with a 9.800, and tied for second on the floor with junior Ashley Shepard. NC State only lost to the No. 12 team by 1.750 points, but the win over Alaska gave Stevenson his 400th victory.
Ohio State hosts the Pack after receiving national team rankings in multiple events. The Buckeyes are No. 23 on the floor, No. 18 on beam, and No. 11 on bars. Kayla Clevinger leads her team with a No. 22 ranking on bars, and placed first on bars and second in the all-around against Illinois.
