RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State head women’s soccer coach Laura Kerrigan has announced the 2008 spring women’s soccer schedule.
The five dates of competition, the maximum allowed by the NCAA, will start in mid-March and finish up in late April. The Wolfpack will begin the spring when they head to the coast to take on UNC Wilmington Saturday, March 15 at 2 pm.
Two weeks later, the Pack will host a Round Robin Tournament on Saturday, March 29 featuring NC State, Charlotte, and Radford. Festivities begin at 12 noon at Method Road.
The following Saturday, the club will head across state lines to take on South Carolina down in Columbia on April 5 at 3 pm.
On April 12, NC State will take part in the ACC Spring Tournament at the Winston-Salem Soccer Complex.
And finally, on Thursday, April 17 the Pack will host UNC Greensboro at the brand-new Derr Soccer Complex at 7 pm. It will be the first spring match in the new stadium complex.
“For soccer, the spring season is all about player development, and we are looking to push our players to the next level. We’ll have our players play in different positions and different formations throughout the spring in an effort to develop their tactical awareness on the field,” said Kerrigan.
Kerrigan continued, "With only losing one senior from last year's club, albiet a great one in team leader Jessica O'Rourke, we have a strong returning nucleus of players that are ready to use this spring season as a springboard to success this coming fall. Our club wil continue honing their soccer skills this spring, along with increasing their leadership roles in guiding the underclassmen."
"We will be playing a variety of opponents during the spring season, some single games, as well as some multiple game tournaments to give us an opportunity to work on many different facets of our game. This spring is a great time to take our players somewhere new’ in terms of coaching.”
"We are very much looking forward to playing our last match this spring in the new Derr Soccer Stadium Complex. We look at it as an opportunity to propel us into next season in terms of the excitement of playing home matches at night in the center of campus."
The PACK has been back in action working both on the field and in the weight room in preparation of the upcoming games this spring season. According to Kerrigan, “the training sessions will focus primarily on technical development to continually increase our players’ skill level, and tactical awareness to increase our understanding of the game.” Admission to all home soccer games this spring is free.
