Lindsay Vera Scores in Pack Soccer Loss at No. 10 FSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. NC State’s Lindsay Vera scored the first goal of the match but No. 10 Florida State scored four unanswered goals in a 4-1 win in Atlantic Coast Conference women’s soccer action Sunday afternoon at Seminole Soccer Complex.
The Wolfpack (5-3-2, 0-2 ACC) put the crowd on upset alert when Vera buried her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the second minute of action.
Fans were still filing into their seats when senior Jessica O’Rourke’s deftly placed pass found Vera in a perfect scoring position for the Pack. The Houston, Texas, native rifled her shot into the upper-left corner for a 1-0 lead at the 1:27 mark of the first half.
O’Rourke nearly gave the visitors a two-goal lead on a header at the seven minute mark, but Seminole keeper Erin McNulty came up with a good save.
FSU (6-3-1, 1-1 ACC) finally pushed across the equalizer in the 37th minute on a goal by Kirsten van de Ven, who was later thrown out of the match after receiving two yellow cards in the 87th minute.
The Seminoles would take the lead three minutes later on Rachel Lim’s third of the year and would go into halftime leading 2-1.
In the second half, FSU’s Mami Yamaguchi tossed in her 14th goal of the season in the 62nd minute.
Not giving up, the Pack continued to pressure the Seminole half of the field. Chantalle Dugas forced McNulty into a save just moments after the Yamaguchi goal.
Still in possession of the ball after a Katie Ruiz corner kick, Vera nearly got the Pack’s deficit in half with a shot on net in the 79th minute, but again McNulty was up to the task.
In the late stages of the match, Amanda DaCosta found the net for FSU’s final goal at the 84:19 mark.
Little had four saves in net for the Wolfpack, while McNulty made an identical four stops for the Seminoles.
NC State will now prepare to begin a season-long four-game home stand, which begins with a date with Duke next Sunday at 2 pm at Method Road.
