Volleyball Travels to Boston College, Maryland

RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State volleyball team will hit the road beginning tomorrow for the first time since ACC play began in mid-September. The Pack will travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Thursday, Sept. 27 to start things off against Boston College at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 29, State will end its road swing by taking on the Maryland Terrapins at 5 p.m., in College Park, Md.
The Wolfpack enters the stretch at 3-10 (0-3 ACC). Alex Smith ranks 10th in the conference and leads the squad with 373 assists. Lauren Zaniboni continues to posts team-highs in both kills (158) and hitting percentage (.216), while Megan Rehmer has also added 86 kills and a team-best 13 service aces. Nikki Sweet’s 127 digs leads the team, while Zaniboni and Janay Yancey’s 27 blocks are tied for the team lead.
Despite not collecting a service ace in two matches last week, State stands at eighth in the league with 71.
The Eagles enter Thursday at 7-6 (1-2 ACC) with a league win over Maryland. BC has won three of its last five matches, and leads the ACC in service aces with 116. Kelsey Johnson ranks first on the team in offense with 163 kills, while Audrey Eichler carries a 3.00 hitting clip. Brittany Pierpont has 397 assists, Abigail Hasebroock owns 20 service aces, and Cathy Quilico holds 170 digs, all team-highs.
The Pack collected its last ACC victory at Boston College by a score of 3-1 on Oct. 21, 2005.
The Terrapins, who stand at 8-4 (0-3 ACC) and remain undefeated in league action, will host North Carolina on Friday night. Maryland has dropped three-straight contests. The Terps 164.5 blocks lead the ACC, while its .211 hitting percentage stands sixth. Jade Brown’s 76 blocks ranks first in the league, while Mary Beth Brown comes in seventh with 66.
Following this weekend’s action, State will return home to host two league showdowns next week. The Pack will take on Duke next Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., before welcoming Wake Forest on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. Both matches will take place at historic Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus.
