Raleigh, N.C. For the second straight game, the NC State men’s soccer came away with a tie, this time playing visiting Longwood 1-1 Wednesday afternoon at Method Road. The Lancers (2-3-2) converted a penalty kick to strike first, but the Wolfpack (3-2-3) answered back with the tying goal in the 82nd minute.
After a scoreless first half of action, both teams would score once in the second half. Longwood struck first after the Pack was called for a handball in the penalty box and the Lancers were awarded a PK at the 61:30 mark. Sean Harney converted the kick and gave Longwood the 1-0 lead.
NC State would even the score in the 82nd minute. After a Longwood foul, the Pack was awarded a free kick from about 35 yards outs. Sophomore Orry Powers took the shot, which went off the hands of Longwood keeper Brandt Youmans and rolled into the net. The score was Powers’ second of the season.
Neither side would see another game, as the game ended in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of action.
NC State held a 17-10 advantage on shots, with 11 coming in the second half. The Pack’s Christopher Widman finished with five saves, while Youmans had eight for Longwood.
NC State returns to conference action this weekend, traveling to No. 6 Boston College for a 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
