RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State volleyball team will continue Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend, hosting two league foes at historic Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus. The Pack will host Clemson on Friday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m., before welcoming Georgia Tech on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m.
Sunday’s contest against Tech will be broadcast live online via ACC Select. Click here for more information.
State, looking for its first league victory of the season after falling to North Carolina (3-0) a week ago, enters the weekend at 3-8 (0-1 ACC). Lauren Zaniboni continues to lead the team in kills (137), kills per game (3.34) and games played (41). Alex Smith’s 323 assists mark a team-high, as does Nikki Sweet’s 102 digs and Janay Yancey’s 27 total blocks. Four Wolfpacker’s post double-digit totals in service aces, with Megan Rehmer fronting the group with 13. Rehmer also serves as vital cog in the Pack’s offensive assault, as her 86 kills stand second on the roster.
Clemson (7-2) will play its first league match of the season against the Pack. A year ago the Tigers swept the season series, blanking State in both contests. Danielle Hepburn fronts the Clemson offense, as well as the conference, with a .432 hitting percentage. Her 127 kills lead the Tigers, alongside her 42 total blocks. Didem Ege’s 5.66 digs per game stands first in the ACC. In all, Ege has 181 digs on the year. As a team Clemson’s .285 hitting percentage leads the league and stands 14th in the nation.
Georgia Tech (6-4) will take on North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Friday before making the trek to Raleigh. The match will serve as the Yellow Jackets first in league play on the season. GT went 2-1 over the past weekend at the Michigan/Nike Invitational, taking second-place overall after dropping a contest to undefeated Michigan. The Yellow Jackets schedule has been very challenging so far, as the team has already taken on four NCAA Tournament squads from a year ago. Tech head coach Bond Shymansky has not lost to the Pack since taking the reigns of the Yellow Jacket program in time for the 2002 season.
NC State will hit the road next weekend for the first time since the start of conference play. The Pack will square off at Boston College on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m., before taking the court at Maryland on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 5 p.m.
