In all, NC State (2-1-2) remains unbeaten in its last three matches overall.
The visiting Monarchs scored the first goal of the afternoon at the 21:03 mark. An Elizabeth Brewster direct kick deflected off a Wolfpack defender that evaded Pack keeper Sydney Little.
Only 75 seconds later the Wolfpack garnered the equalizer. Red-shirt freshman Nadia Aboulhosn crashed the net from her right side marking position and cleaned up a loose ball in the goal mouth for her first collegiate goal.
The chances for each team continued throughout the match. The Monarchs’ Saratu Dodo rattled a header of the cross bar only five minutes after Aboulhosn’s goal. Late in the half, Wolfpack senior Jessica O'Rourke had a good shot at goal off a header, but it went wide and the two sides went into the intermission tied 1-1.
Midway through the second half, O’Rourke again got her head on a corner from Katie Ruiz, but the ODU defense made a great stop on a shot heading into the lower corner of the net. However, the ball leaked out to Meredith Parrilla and she drilled a shot that appeared to have a chance to find the back of the net, but Monarch keeper Lauren Tupman was able to make the save.
Minutes later, ODU nearly took the lead when Janna Pearson rang her shot off the cross bar in the 73rd minute.
Each team traded a couple scoring opportunities in the two overtime periods, but both keepers were up to the task.
Little made six saves for the Pack, while Tupman was busy between the pipes with 13 saves in 110 minutes of work.
NC State hosts UMBC on Sunday at 4 pm at Method Road Soccer Stadium.
