Volleyball to Host Rival North Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State volleyball team will open Atlantic Coast Conference play this Friday, Sept. 14, by taking on rival North Carolina at historic Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus. First serve is set for 7 p.m. The Wolfpack enters the match with a 3-7 record, while the Tar Heels stand at 4-5.

The Wolfpack freshmen class continues to have a major impact on the team, leading in the majority of statistical categories. Lauren Zaniboni (127) and Megan Rehmer (85) are first and second respectively in kills, with Zaniboni averaging 3.34 per game. Rehmer is second on the roster in digs with 75, and is tied for the lead in service aces alongside sophomore Chrissy Zirpolo with 12. Freshmen Alex Smith (297 assists), Jana Angel (.86 blocks per game) and Nikki Sweet (93 digs) also have team-high benchmarks.
UNC enters its conference slate after going 2-1 last weekend at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill. Christine Vaughen took all-tournament team honors after grabbing 21 kills and a .389 hitting percentage against American last weekend. Stephanie Jansma barely missed a triple-double in the same match, recording 53 assists, 16 digs and six kills. Jansma and Brianna Eskola each have seven service aces on the season, while Sue Haydel holds a team-high 93 kills.
State will return to the court next weekend, hosting both Clemson and Georgia Tech as ACC play continues. The Pack will take on the Tigers at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, before hosting the Yellow Jackets at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23.
