Raleigh, N.C. The NC State men’s soccer team picked up its second shutout of the season, as the Pack downed visiting Georgia Southern 1-0 Wednesday afternoon at Method Road. Senior El Hadj Cisse scored for the Wolfpack (3-1-1) in the 30th minute, and keeper Christopher Widman made two saves to shutout the Eagles (1-4).
After neither team launched a shot on goal for the first 29 minutes of action, NC State took advantage of the first such attempt. Senior Hugh Cronin won the ball in the middle of the field and found sophomore Jorge Mora on the right wing. Mora crosses the ball into the box, and Cisse controlled the ball, and fired a shot in the Georgia Southern net for his first goal of the season at the 29:34 mark.
NC State nearly added an insurance goal just before the half, as Mora took a shot just inside the 18-yard line that hit the post. NC State would go into the half with a 1-0 lead.
The second half of the contest was played mostly in the midfield, as there were limited scoring opportunities for both squads.
For the game, NC State won the shot tally, 15-7. Widman earned his second shutout of the season with two saves for the Pack.
NC State will begin ACC competition this weekend, as the Pack plays host to rival North Carolina on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
