Volleyball Takes a Game, but Drops to GSU, 3-1

GAINESVILLE, FLA. NC State ended its stay at the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational with a 3-1 (30-24, 25-30, 30-25, 30-19) loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday, Sept. 1, in Gainesville, Fla. In defeat the Pack moves to 3-4 on the year, while GSU improves to 3-4.
Megan Rehmer led the Wolfpack with 14 kills, while Janay Yancey added nine and two service aces. Alex Smith and Chrissy Zirpolo each collected 11 digs, and Smith also recorded 41 assists.
Bianca Julio’s 18 kills were tops for the Eagles, and Gorana Bacic contributed 12 more. Mae Chabra scored 50 assists, while Flavia Pereira racked up 24 digs.
State came back from a loss in the first game to take the second with a match-high .238 hitting percentage. GSU resumed control in the third frame, however, leading for the entire game.
The Pack had its worst game statistically in the fourth and final contest, grabbing just nine kills and offering a -.079 clip.
NC State will return home to host the Holiday Inn Brownstone Volleyball Challenge next weekend at historic Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus. Akron, Dartmouth and East Carolina will round out the tournament field.
